From a single clinic chair in 2020 to a national training vision.
2015–2019
A calling takes shape
After decades in private practice, Dr. Thomas Lee and Lita Lee formed His Hands On Africa in 2016 — to bring the hope and healing of Jesus by raising up dentists who serve through gospel-centered healthcare.
2020
Nyamata opens
Tom and Lita sell their practice and home in Southern California, move to Rwanda, and open the Compassion Community Dental Clinic at Nyamata District Hospital, serving nearly 500,000 people.
2021
Water, a second clinic, and training
First water project in Nyarunazi, second clinic in Ngeruka, first training meeting of sixteen clinicians, and the first Run-for-the-One fundraiser.
2022
Best Department of the Year
Nyamata District Hospital awards HHOA Best Department. Second water project in Rugazi serves 3,000 people. Partnership mobile clinic in Kayego with The Roots Network and Dream Medical Center.
2023
HOPE purchased
Weekly outreach (~80 people each). Third water project in Karambi. Purchase of the building that becomes the HOPE Dental Center.
2024
Renovations begin
The HOPE Dental Center takes shape as a hub for care, training, and community service. Partner teams join from beyond Rwanda.
2025
Dedication
Board travels to Kigali for the HDC dedication. Outreach expands, including a team of young Rwandan dentists serving in Uganda.
Future
Vision
Train and disciple dentists in Rwanda, launch mobile and satellite clinics, and reach remote villages through gospel-centered, locally trained professionals.
